Spring Season April 13 - June 1

League Information

Games will be played in West phoenix for kids in the west phoenix area and in Central phoenix for teams in central phoenix. There may be times where a team will play a game or two in an area other than where child lives. End of season playoffs for grades K -8th grades will be on November 17. Most games for both locations will be held during week,but they may be a few saturday games.Here are some answers to few questions that you may have.

When and where are pratices?

Practices are determined by coaches in general area in which child lives. If there are days your child cannot practice please specify at time of registration.

Divisions are grouped by grade, below are grades that will play together:

1st and 2nd

3rd and 4th

5th and 6th

7th and 8th

When and where are games? Games will be held on weekdays and Saturdays, locations and day games played TBD.

When does actual season start?

Actual start day is September 29, the first two weeks are preseason which allows teams to get ready for season with a few scrimmage games. Most new teams will start September 29.

When is the last day to register?

We take registrations until Serptember 22 , we encourage to get your child registration in as soon as possible in order for your child to get placed on team so he or she can be ready for season. Most teams in the league are returning teams from previous seasons and are usually practicing in between seasons. Dont wait until last days to register if possible, the sooner your child signs up the sooner we can get him/her on a team to start practicing. Payment arraingments can be made.

Bring Your Own Team

SBL allows coaches/schools to bring their own teans at a discounted rate.

Teams can wear their own uniforms/jerseys as long it is not from another league or teams can purchase league jerseys.

Entry fee for league is $350 per team without gym being provided for practice, if league is to provide practice facility for coaches bringing their own teams the cost will range from $400 -$500 per team depending on gym and how many days and hours used.

Our rates are not only the lowest in the West Valley by far, but one of the lowest in entire Valley for team entry fees. SBL also offers multi-team discounts.

School team rate is $250 per team.

Developmental Program/Travel Team

Southwest Basketball League offers a developmental program for kids that wish to play at higher level. However, our kids are not just being thrown out to some club team, where in most cases they just sit on the bench and wait for their turn to play.

SBL has created its own travel teams for players 2nd -8th grade that will compete throughout valley/state in tournaments as well as other basketball leagues.
Players will not be placed on travel teams until the league and/or travel coach feels the player is ready.
Travel team basketball is for advanced players that have played the sport for several seaons, but there are a rare exceptions of kids who have never played organized basketball and are ready to play club basketball.

As with all our divisions SBL will make sure kids playing on travel teams will get a fair amount of playing time. Our travel teams play against some of the best teams in the state.

All Girls Division

Southwest Basketball League is the only league in the West Valley and one of few in the entire Valley that offers a local girls only basketball league. The girls division is usually one of our most competitive divisions, which ranges from 5th -8th grade. As with all our divisions girls that want to play at higher level can join one of our travel teams and play in tournaments throughout Valley. Girls league play is offered year round.
